Our first interview is with Rachel who organizes with End The Prison Industrial Complex (EPIC), a prison abolitionist group based in Kingston, Ontario. EPIC recently launched Over The Wall, a newsletter about strikes, actions and organizing against prisons in Ontario. We also speak a bit on the 15th International Conference on Penal Abolition which will be taking place in Ottawa from June 13 to 15 at the University of Ottawa.
Later on in the show we’ll have in studio with us a local activist speaking to us about three anarchists who are presently incarcerated in Mexico.
On May 2, in Ohio, a Judge ordered hormone treatment to a transgendered prisoner which had been maliciously taken away from her by prison authorities. We share an article with our listeners on this issue.
On a recent show of ours we spoke briefly about a hunger strike of immigrants that was taking place at the North West Detention Center in Washington State. The hunger strike ended after 56 days. We share a text posted on May 5 on the blog: prisonerhungerstrikesolidarity.wordpress.com
On April 29th, in the state of Oklahama a death row prisoner died of a heart attack after his execution was halted because the lethal injection of three drugs failed to work properly. On today’s show we have political prisoner Mumia Abu-Jamal commenting on this case.
