CeCe McDonald is an African American transgender woman from Minnesota who was imprisoned for 19 months in a men’s prison for defending herself in a racist, transphobic attack that took place in June of 2011. CeCe was released from prison on January 13, 2014. She joined us for a live phone interview.
Recently men incarcerated in the control units at Westville Correctional Facility in Northern Indiana went on a hunger strike to protest the substandard food that they have been receiving. We spoke to one of the prisoners who participated in this protest. During our interview he also spoke of other serious abuses taking place at this prison.
