We have our monthly segment on birthdays of North American political prisoners that take place in the month of November. This information is obtained from sources in the US. Many political prisoners in the US have languished inside for years, often decades. It should be noted that this list is not necessarily complete and we recognize that there are possibly many more political prisoners and P.O.W.s.
We have an interview with and recording of a talk by Brendan Casey who is an independent republican who lives in Ireland. The focus of the conversation was on Ireland post 1998 and the ongoing struggles against criminalization and imprisonment.
The number of Palestinian prisoners who have died inside Israel continues to go up. We will have an update on the case of a Palestinian prisoner who died last week while in Israeli custody with details from a recent press release from the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights in Gaza.
We have an interview with Jacquie Nicholson, a member of the Prisoners’ Strike Support Network in Winnipeg, an ad hoc group formed in solidarity with the federal prisoners’ strike. Jacquie who is involved in various kinds of prisoner solidarity activism in Winnipeg, speaks to us about the 30% wage cut to all federal prisoners, the prisoner resistance against it at Stony Mountain Penitentiary and the solidarity and the campaigns organized in the outside communities for these striking prisoners.
We have a report back from the annual event, Running Down The Walls. The event was a fundraiser which raises awareness and focused on prisoners without status and it takes place inside prison as well as in the outside communities. This year that event took place in Hamilton, Ontario in late October.
