Prison Radio Show – January 25, 2013

An in-depth interview with G20 Political Prisoner Alex Hundert on the difficulties that he, along with other prisoners, have been having with access to reading material in both the Metro Toronto West Detention Centre as well as the Central North Correctional Centre in Penetanguishene, Ontario, two Ontario provincial prisons.

An interview with long-time prisoners’ rights activist and psychotherapist Giselle Dias on the upcoming Prisoners’ Justice Film Festival in London, Ontario.

There is also an interview with Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology at the University of Ottawa, Justin Piché. Justin speaks on the Journal of Prisoners on Prisons (JPP), which is currently seeking written texts on prisoners’ experiences, including but not limited to, solitary confinement. He also explains what is ICOPA, the International Conference On Penal Abolition, giving a run down of the prior two conferences and talks about what is being planned for ICOPA 15, which will take place in Ottawa in 2014. Lastly Justin Piché speaks briefly on a joint project that he is collaborating on with Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology at the University of Victoria, Kevin Walby. The project is called: “Carceral Cultures Project.”
