Prison Radio Show – January 10, 2013

We have a report back on the Noise Demo that took place on New Year’s Eve which took place outside of Tanguay and Bordeaux provincial prisons. (For those outside of Montreal: Tanguay is the women’s provincial prison and Bordeaux, located just behind it, is one of the men’s provincial prisons, both located on the Island of Montreal). This audio is in French and English.

Reform vs. Abolition. Last September 14, at the Riverside Church in NYC, 3000 people attended to hear people speak on the issue of prison reform vs. prison abolition. We aired segments of this speech including best selling author of The New Jim Crow, Michelle Alexander, activist and former prisoner Joseph “Jazz” Hayden and journalist, academic and TV personality Marc Lamont Hill.

Throughout 2013 on the Prison Radio Show we will announce the birthdays of North American Political Prisoners during each monthly Thursday edition of the Prison Radio Show. We understand that our list is not necessarily complete. We have obtained this information from a source in the States. We are doing this in the efforts to bring awareness of all the PP & POWs who are languishing behind bars.

We have an interview with Caroline Isaacs, the Program Director of the Tucson, Arizona office of the American Friends Service Committee. We discuss Corrections Corporation of America (CCA), and more specifically its involvement in the State of Arizona on how this private for-profit corporation runs some prisons in this State, how it is now involved in drug-raids at high schools and what its connection is to ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council, and how ALEC influences legislation that benefits for-profit prison corporations, such as CCA.
